Along
with rest and physical therapy,
solutions are available to help
us cope with muscle pain from
injuries, as well as spasms
and other strains on the body.
Skelaxin is a skeletal muscle
relaxant used to relieve the
pain of muscle injuries, spasms,
sprains, and strains. Skelaxin
is recommended as a supplement
to physical therapy, rest, or
other treatments your doctor
may recommend, and it will not
replace these treatments. Do
not overuse injured muscles
while under the effects of Skelaxin,
as this may result in further
injury and a prolonged recovery
time.
Skelaxin also markedly relieves
pain, rigidity, automatism and
clonus (spasm in which contraction
and relaxation of a muscle alternate
in rapid succession), with a
consequent improvement in the
patients mobility. Active and
passive physiotherapy are therefore
facilitated.
Skelaxin is therefore an ideal
option to be used in conjunction
with a physiotherapy regimen.
Ask your doctor about how to
relieve your muscle pain with
Skelaxin.
While Skelaxin is traditionally
used to treat injuries and other
painful muscular conditions,
it may also be used for purposes
other than those directly linked
to muscle injury.
How
it works:
A
skeletal muscle relaxant is
a centrally acting muscle relaxant.
It acts on the motor system
of the spinal cord, inhibiting
both monosynaptic and polysynaptic
reflex transmission and reduces
the activity of gamma motor
neurones.
Skelaxin does not, however,
influence neuromuscular impulse
transmission in the motor endplates.
It does though, reduce plasticity
in neurological disease associated
with skeletal muscle spasm.
How
to Use:
Take
metaxalone exactly as directed
by your doctor. If you do not
understand these directions,
ask your pharmacist, nurse,
or doctor to explain them to
you.
Important
Side Effect Information :
If
you experience any of the following
serious side effects, stop taking
metaxalone and seek emergency
medical attention: an allergic
reaction (difficulty breathing;
closing of your throat; swelling
of your lips, tongue, or face;
or hives); or yellow skin or
eyes.
